La Figa Behind the Scenes: Septuagenarian Citrus

Tiberio and I did a wonderful shoot last weekend with a model in her seventies. The concept was to create a citrus triptych – one good shot each of lemon, lime, and orange. Here are a few outtakes…

I can’t decide whether or not to take out the earring in this last shot. I kind of like the way it echoes the rings of the lemons, but on the other hand, jewelry really doesn’t belong. Thoughts?

At first I thought the ear ring neither added nor detracted from the photo, and my instinct was to leave it. On second look, I actually think it adds to the photo compositionally; that one additional circle brings the eyes naturally up to the model’s face, so it’s kind of a natural transition from her body and the lemons to the rest of her…it completes the visual sweep. Without it, the eyes stall at her shoulders and then naturally drift back down to her breasts without ever taking in the whole image.
